How to calculate a weighted average

  1. Enter each value and its weight.

Formula: sum of (value × weight) ÷ sum of weights. For scores 80 with weight 2 and 90 with weight 3, the answer is (160 + 270) ÷ 5 = 86.

Do weights need to total 100?

No. Percentages, frequencies, and relative weights work as long as all rows use the same weighting method. A zero weight contributes nothing; at least one weight must be positive. Blank rows are ignored, but partly completed rows must be completed or removed.

How precise is the result?

Entered decimals are combined using integer arithmetic. The displayed average and total weight are rounded to 12 significant digits.
